Increasing Multiplier Slots

An increasing multiplier grows by steps during a chain or round, and the rules should state the step size, the cap and the reset condition.

How increasing multipliers work

An increasing multiplier starts at a stated factor and grows by steps as a round progresses. The growth driver is defined in the rules, and the common ones are consecutive wins in a chain, specific symbols landing and progress through a bonus. Each step either adds to the factor or multiplies it, and the two schemes produce very different totals.

The mechanic is most at home in games with Tumble & Cascading Reels, where each step of the chain raises the factor for the wins that follow. In that pairing a long chain compounds, because later waves of wins meet a larger factor than the first wave did.

Inside Free Spins the design often removes the reset, so the factor carries from spin to spin and keeps growing across the round. The persistence rule separates the two common variants, and it is the first line to find when the round is described. A factor that persists across a round is worth more than the same schedule with a reset every spin.

Three disclosures complete the picture. The rules should state the starting factor, the size of each step and the maximum the factor can reach. A stated cap is not a defect, and an unstated one is, because the difference between a 100x limit and an open scale belongs in writing rather than in a player’s assumptions.

General multiplier behaviour, and what a factor applies to, is covered on the Multipliers page. The increasing variant only adds the growth schedule, and the schedule is exactly what its rules must publish.
